Asset management for a changing world – balanced portfolio

Signum Monetary Systems Strategy Specialty Investment Fund The fund aims to provide investors with stable and robust risk-adjusted returns, even over shorter time horizons. The strategy emphasizes efficient cross-asset diversification, seeking superior risk management across diverse market environments and the preservation of capital in real terms. The fund is designed to provide protection in an environment marked by rising geopolitical tensions, increasing sovereign debt challenges, high inflation, and market instability. Described as an "all-weather" solution, the strategy targets a favorable risk-return profile independent of market cycles. The portfolio consists of securities listed on regulated markets, managed actively and professionally as part of a holistic investment approach. This specific fund strategy is unique within the Finnish asset management landscape.

The fund's investments can be divided into four sub-portfolios

  1. Fixed Income: Investments in inflation-linked government bonds of major Western nations, structured to remain largely hedged against interest rate risk. This component is designed to provide short-term protection against inflation and rising inflation expectations.
  2. Precious metals: Investments in precious metals (primarily gold, and silver) and companies operating in gold mining, refining, and related sectors. This segment aims to provide short-term protection against geopolitical risks and preserve the real value of capital over the medium term.
  3. Equities – Defensive Companies: Targeted at publicly listed companies with business models resilient to economic cycles, inflation, and interest rate fluctuations. These companies are strategically positioned to navigate global crises (e.g., geopolitical conflicts). The portfolio is globally diversified to mitigate country-specific risks.
  4. Equities – Digital Asset Companies: Investments in publicly traded companies providing exposure to the transformation of the monetary system, driven by the Bitcoin ecosystem and blockchain technology. This component seeks to deliver significantly higher long-term returns than traditional equity markets while addressing inflation risk and potential systemic crises within current monetary frameworks.

Strategic asset allocation is the cornerstone of the fund’s investment strategy and portfolio management. The sub-portfolios have historically exhibited strong negative correlation with one another, balancing total returns and reducing risk across diverse market environments. Precise weighting of these components is essential to ensure that the fund’s risk-return profile remains robust under varying conditions. The strategy aims not only to manage short-term volatility but, more importantly, to avoid the significant drawdowns that investors have faced during recent crises. Examples of such periods include the market shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020, as well as the 2022 market environment characterized by rapid inflation, geopolitical tensions, and the war in Ukraine. A more recent example of the strategy’s resilience was seen in spring 2025, when the trade policies and tariff threats of the new US administration led to a sharp equity market sell-off; in this environment, the fund’s diversified allocation helped mitigate the impact and stabilize performance.
